No reason I can think of to overthink it. Carry whatever weapon is in season. I carry a 9mm with bear bullets in it. Definitely carry in archery not really necessary when your carrying a rifle but I usually do out of habit.

Serious question, what is a bear bullet? Is it a hard cast? What weight.

Depends on what I am hunting, where I am hunting and how I am getting there. I use boat ramps in the wee hours of the morning. You don't know who is down there. I take the equipment that is allowed during season on that particular property (some places do not allow certain firearms for hunting) and a pistol. The pistol in most cases is always for self defense and only comes out if necessary.

I don't know if it has been said, but you cannot dispatch a deer with a pistol during bow and ML season... it is neither of those (unless it is a ML pistol) and is illegal to hunt with. If you dispatch the animal with it you are hunting with it and are hunting illegally.

My biggest fear in the woods is running into a crazy meth head. It's for this reason that my weapon is actually a bodyguard.

I carry @Dbllunger through the woods and when he sees a meth head he holds out one of these and says "Let me see them teef, boy"

I can understand if you're in Alaska bowhunting carrying a shotgun or large handgun, but deer hunting in the lower States? If you have a rifle in your hands why would you need something else that's less powerful and less accurate?
