What power do you set your scope?

Woods 3 to 5. Field usually start around 8 and can crank to 15.

I got a scope that was way overkill, something like 4 to 24x. I find myself using it most between 4 and 6, maybe 8 if I'm trying to do some precision target shooting.

I change it up based on the woods that I'm in. Pretty open woods will be at 6. Thicker stuff at 4. Same for whether I'm still hunting or stand hunting. Muscle memory to pull up the rifle and be right on target- I'd recommend some drills for that if anyone hasn't done that, might help you in a bad situation or the deer woods.

Killed a decent 8 pointer this morning with the 3.5-10 Leupold set at 3.5. Deer was 280 yards. I did dial in 2.75 moa elevation but I didn't touch the magnification knob.

3.5x at 280 yards makes a steady reticle. Leupold VX3HD? I have same magnification on a VX3HD.

It's a vari-x iii. I bought it new in 1999. I put the Stoney point elevation knob on it so I can dial in the shot.
I had already looked at the deer through my Leupold spotting scope on about 25x so there was really no need to turn up the scope
