Upcoming Cold Snap

Forecast calls for a cold front to come in late this week and bring us the first fall weather of the season. Temps will be high 30s, low 40s at first light Saturday and Sunday mornings.

I usually hunt evenings during bow season, but I'm tempted to do an early morning sit and see if that cold snap has them on their feet.

Anyone planning on being in the woods this coming weekend?

Don't hardly bow hunt in October any more but I have a big deer on camera and very well might be in a tree this weekend. I kinda doubt it but thinking about it.

With the cool weather, it would be a great morning to do some light rattling with a set of antlers. Nothing loud, just some light tickling of the tines! And then lay them down and be ready! I killed a nice buck with my bow after rattling on a cool morning about 10 years ago. I saw several more bucks after I shot him. They were shooters too! I might have to borrow my dad's Excalibur and go sit in my favorite spot.

Absolutely a good time to rattle a little. I've sat a few times in the last week and have seen several sparring sessions, one particularly intense. Bucks are still grouped up but walking around each other with ears laid back.

We were at some Oktoberfest thing yesterday drinking a few beers. We were with friends and maybe planning a get together next weekend. I pulled up the forecast and it showed a low of 38. My wife said "well, he'll be hunting, so he's out". then my buddy started laughing and said this is the first time I think I've ever seen you in October. I said, "it's hot out"

About the only time I "rattle" is the first few weeks of bow season. It's just tickling the horns together, nothing dramatic. I've had quite a few bucks come in - not looking for a fight or anything, just curious to see who it is.

Only the middle school aged ones. The adults roll their eyes & turn away just like women do.

So dissapointed. Been waiting for the cold snap and hunting in this heat. The cold snap moves in right when fall break starts for the kids. Ill be in a lakehouse in georgia spending time with the family and will miss it. Weather never seems to line up with my schedule lol
