When do you throw in the towel for this season?

The lack of mature bucks using my property has been shocking. Worse yet, of the older bucks we are getting on camera, not a one would break 120.
I've had a good season as far as seeing deer, when I did get to go. Two does being tended by 2-1/2 yr old bucks was an exciting couple of hunts, but as you alluded to, normally, if I saw a doe being tended, it would be by the boss of the woods. I've seen, and killed a few dandy's that were locked down with a doe, but this season the older ones must have just found their does on the outskirts of my property lines.

Often I've hunted to the bitter end and have killed my buck in the new year before. Late season offers some opportunities around food and predictable patterns. But, after getting a nice buck already and family obligations I've been wondering about ending the season early this year. What say ye?
the last day of the season.

I usually hang in there until the end of the season. Last year my seasoned ended early due to back issue. With fewer deer, seems to be less sightings late in the season. The season has been extended. So I'm going to just play it by ear with sightings and cameras letting me know when its time to quit.

When the season is over. If I'm getting bored in the deer woods I'll throw in a duck hunt or two. Thankfully I'm mostly a meat hunter so the chances of me killing something that will get my heart rate up is pretty high. I also figure worst case scenario is I'm out in the woods packing heat and not killing anything so it's a good day no matter what.

Came down with the Fauci the pariah virus yesterday. So this weekend is out. Hope to get back out and try for a Christmas or New Year buck or doe. Got a nice public land buck opening day of rifle. Had a choice of two does a few days later but passed because didn't want another long drag. Lesson learned. When the opportunity presents itself have to take it. Might not get another chance.

The only deer I killed last year was a doe on the last day of the season.

With these guys on trailcam, I have 1 tag left to fill… then onto the remaining duck season.
