Over the past 20 years we've all seen an increase in media coverage of deer hunting with AR-style rifles. I was wondering just how many hunters on TNDeer actually deer hunt with an AR-15 or AR-10-style rifle.

I dont but I will be purchasing an AR10 in the coming weeks with the intention of using it as a deer rifle. I need a all weather rifle that I don't cate to get wet.

I personally have never taken one, but would not think twice about taking one. When my daughter was younger. We started her out on one because the short stock and low recoil.
On occasion, but not often. I'm always going to prefer a bolt gun for my style of hunting, but MSRs have their place
I use lever and bolt actions, so no, I don't use one for hunting.

Never have, mainly because I know bolts are, usually, more accurate. Most deer fall after one shot, so follow-ups are not necessary. Have used one for hogs though, and would not hesitate to take a deer with one if that was all I had. But I don't own an AR for hunting, I own one for firepower in support of the 2A and home defense.

That's pretty much all I use anymore.
Prefer my 336, but if it's bad weather or a kid hunting then it's the AR in 6.8spc. It blows the lungs out of the body… or whatever uncle Joe said
Taken several with my 6.8 SPC. Being relatively compact makes it easier to carry in a pack and is very accurate out to 200yds. Where I hunt, 100yds is probably a long shot.
No. There is something special about a beautiful walnut stock on a bolt action.
No. Own several but have never used on deer. I have one that I built for coyotes.

I actually dont even own an AR. Never felt the need with the ole trusty mini 14 (which has only been used for predator hunting, not deer).

For that reason, I didn't participate in the poll because of how it was asked.

Just depends on where & how deer hunting.

The bolt action 300 Wby I always used prior to moving to TN is really over-kill for the type of hunting I do here. Have 2 AR's I've used for deer here - a 6.5 CM that I set up for long range shooting, but it's pretty heavy at 14 lbs; and a 10.5" 300 black out. The 300 BLK is great in the woods and in a climber or tree stand where shots are going to be under 100 yds.
