The slugs aren't supposed to bugger the threads even if you go no choke.
The Ithaca 37 is a great gun. I have several. They are the best ever in my opinion.I have 2 shotguns that I hunt with every year, a Savage 212 and an Ithaca model 37. The Ithaca is a smooth bore and I've killed many many deer with Winchester super x rifled slugs and no choke what so ever. In all fairness, most of my shots are 50yds and under due to the thick nature of where I hunt.
What types of distances are you looking to shoot and how thick is the area you're looking at hunting?
