Shot a good 8 pointer this evening. Was planning on leaving him hanging overnight…only going to get down to the mid 50's in Giles County. Y'all think he will be okay?

Don't know. I always heard...hot food above 140. Cold food below 40...or something like that.

Agreed. I would at least get it quartered up and in a cooler.

I'd hang him, but split open the muscles to the back hams so they dissipate some heat. Don't break the joint, just open those rear quarters up. It should be fine.

90% of my hunting for 4 decades as been MS, AL, GA, SC, NC, and SW TN. $5 worth of ice has let countless deer hang when it's cool but not cold.

Not for me without a lot of ice.
May be ok with ice in cavity hanging but they skin easy and could have it quartered in 30-45 min and in a cooler with no worries . JMO

Skinned and quartered and will be just fine overnight in mid 50s. Maybe not with hide on...
You would be better off quartering him up and putting in a cooler. Needs to be 34* to 38* .
I agree skin off and a bag of ice or 2 . Quartering and a Cooler would be best.
If you didn't recover him until morning the meat would still be fine, so not sure how gutting and hanging would cause it to not be fine. That said, I would quarter it and get it refrigerated. Leaving hanging overnight is certainly not going to help it any. And it will be covered with flies not long after sunnup. So you'd have to be up at the crack of dawn anyway.

I am honestly curious about why people have forgotten basic math......I understand geometry and algebra....or trigonometry and physics...... but at some point in time you learned to wipe your butt. I may end up the @$$#0/3.....but it is honestly why people complain about how "wild game" tastes. The moment the animal dies(blood stops flowing) to the second it is "recovered/processed is critical. There is no "wild" game flavor, it's just a way of blaming someone else.
