Most of the rain past 24h missed me to the east and west, but newly planted plots did get 0.47in of slow soaking rain yesterday evening. Looking at the radar, some places may have actually gotten TOO much. That happened to me last year... 13inches the week after I planted and about half my planted acres drowned.

I'll be thrilled if I pick up another 1.5in today, tomorrow, and Tuesday.

My place fell between the cracks. Literally two miles to my east got 2". Two miles to my west got 2". I got 0.24". But at least I'm not like the I-40/Hwy 64 interchange near Dickson. I drove through blinding rain in that location yesterday afternoon. Checked the radar and they got 5.75"! Ouch.

Is there a way to see how much rain an area gets without a rain gauge? My property is 15 miles (as a crow flies) away from the house. The way these rain showers have been one place was getting hammered while 1/2 mile away everything was dry. Not sure what the seed I planted Saturday morning got.

Drove thru it myself, had no idea it was THAT much rain.

Sign up for a Farm Logs account. On free version you are allowed to pick one field to monitor. Once setup you'll receive an email every 24 hrs during rain event

No more for me yesterday or last night... sure hoping I catch one today.

If it doesn't rain again next weekend, the half inch I got Saturday is just enough for seed to germinate then die without another rain event.

Is that an app?
Yes, it's a "by invitation only" app that I have access to. You can also use the NOAA website, which is my usual go to site for all things weather. The app I use simply takes the information from NOAA and makes maps out of it, and I find it more user friendly. Here's NOAA's site for rainfall:

Not sure for me but I planted a week ago Saturday and got a nice heavy drizzle on Monday, and some more on Tues. My plot was already sprouting last Thurs and has really took off this weekend. We probably got an inch or more between Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

Use this site:

You can choose 72, 48, or 24 hour rainfall. You can zoom right down to an individual house and click on the spot and get a rainfall amount. I've found the numbers to be shockingly accurate. Much more accurate than any other site/source I've used in the past.

That's why I'm worried about planting this week. Forecast rainfall for next weekend is only so-so, and GFS is looking dry for the next 10 days afterwards. Decisions, decisions...

Bone dry as of 8am Saturday. Water was still rising when this pic snapped less than 12 hours later. We received over 2" in less than a couple hours.

That's awesome. I was close when I said 1". That shows we got 1.14" the last 72 hours at my house. 1.65" at my other property 25 miles away. I knew we had gotten more there. Going to download that app.

I forgot who posted that back a couple of months ago, but I now use it every day. I've only once seen it off by more than 0.20"

We got 2" Saturday right after drilling 9 acres. It was a flood. When that was over, finished about another 11 acres Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Supposedly got almost another inch Sunday afternoon. Time will tell if our herbicide application worked a couple hours before the downpour.

2 years ago I sprayed standing weeds in our fall plots in MS... now, granted, it was 3qts per acre gly plus surfactant equivalent (so a little hotter than normal), but the plots that got light rain on them just after I finished up burned down just as well as the ones that had 6 hours of dry time before the rain.

I bet you will be fine even with a downpour as long as it had time to completely dry before the rain (30 min to an hour depending on humidity)

We did 2-3 quarts per acre and the guys said it was about an hour before the rain started. With it being as hot and breeze as it was, I'm fairly confident it dried. Will update in about a month when I get back there
