There is a statewide taking season from sunset on the 3rd Friday of September until sunrise on the last day in February.
For the sunset, July 1 until the 3rd Friday of September Private Land only take season, the counties of Scott, Morgan, Roane, Rhea, Hamilton, and all counties east of those counties was closed. You would need to speak with your Regional Wildlife Manager at the Regional office on te reasons behind that change.
