It looks like the Remington 700's are back in production. Grab a Gun shows a bunch of them in stock.

I'm sure there will be a lot of controversy and bickering about new vs. old, but under a grand I wouldn't hesitate to give them a try, they have always owned that market.

With new 700's coming online the used price should go back down to where it should be. Plenty of used Remington's far under your budget I'd bet would compete with anything out there.

That issue was resolved in the T3x

Yep, I bought a T3x to take on my elk hunt. Mine has been great and is very accurate.


My Tikka chillin' under a tree in Colorado.

All a matter of opinion. I am partial to model 700's. That said, very interested in Bergara rifles.
I am not sure where you are in West Tn but if you get closer to buying and want to take a look at a few, I have a number of them you are welcome to check out to see if there is a model you like.

I wanted to build a rifle in 280AI. Looked at the browning x bolt. It comes with everything i wanted. I am very happy with mine. I would look at the x bolt.
