I would suggest finding couple that have the accuracy at the distance you want and then checking the availability of different stocks n dodads you may want to add later on.

Tikkas will shoot but I broke three of the bottom "metals" torquing the action screws to spec. After replacing the ploymer bottom metal and bolt shroud with Mountain Tactical parts, they're not quite as good of a value.

It looks like the Remington 700's are back in production. Grab a Gun shows a bunch of them in stock.

I'm sure there will be a lot of controversy and bickering about new vs. old, but under a grand I wouldn't hesitate to give them a try, they have always owned that market.

With new 700's coming online the used price should go back down to where it should be. Plenty of used Remington's far under your budget I'd bet would compete with anything out there.

Yep, I bought a T3x to take on my elk hunt. Mine has been great and is very accurate.

The issue i have with tikkas is how thick they are throught their middle. Thats what kept me away. Im sure they shoot great
