When you make a long shot (300 yds or more) on game, what do you use?

Your not going to rile me, if you say you did it I believe you. I just want to know about your gun, caliber, what bullet, scope, what degree scope base, I did a lot of shooting on a 600yd range for several years. Just curious to know your set up.
My goto gun is Remington model 700 sendero, laminated stock, 26 in sendero contour blued barrel, action bedded, barrel floated. Rifle Basix 8oz trigger. Optics are an 8.25x25 Leupold Vari-X III, standard Leupold dual dovetail rings and bases, no 20 MOA bases for me. Ive shot this setup out to 1300 yards and still had adjustment left. Caliber is .300 Rem Ultra Mag, bullet is a 178gr Hornady A-Max. RL25 is the powder I use but Im not giving load data because mine is over max.
Edited to add: at those distances, really anything past 400, spin drift, elevation, temperature, humidity, etc... all come into play. Strelok Pro can really help some people with that, in addition to a wind meter that hooks to the app via bluetooth but youve got to be able to get it all hooked up right with REAL shot on paper data to put into it to make it work. Otherwise its useless.
First time I went to Montana 5 or 6 years ago I was sitting in a spot with spotty service and had ranged a bench 750 yards away across the valley. I knew what my elevation was and from experience I had already decided how much to "take off" my charts from home. (50 yards less btw). Eventually my electronic gadgets all connected and it spit out the exact data that I had already figured on my own. Well lo and behold, an hour later a shooter buck and his does started feeding across that very bench. I doped the scope for 700 yards, moved the windage 3 clicks left for drift, rested the rifle, and PINWHEELED that buck through both lungs.

If I am carrying my Ruger 25-06 it is set to dead on at 200yds with very little drop at 300yds so I still aim at dead on, 400 yds is 6 inch drop so I hold on the back. Killed a buck running at 350 yds last year then 2 different does at 250 yds, all dropped in their tracks. Killed a buck at 250 yds this year that fell where it was standing. My longest kill is 415 yds. I don't have time in my area to dial in.

Dial past 200 if I have time. If not I know my drop and can pull off ethical shot to 250ish. But I like dialing when given the chance to do so.

Your 25-06 only drops 6" from 200-400? Wow

I have never shot it at a gun range to get the exact drop but I know at 400 yds I can put the crosshairs on top of the back and hit just below the spine. The doe I killed at 415 yds blew her shoulders out about 6 inches below where I was aiming.
I shoot the Hornady 90 grn SST Superformance in it.

I wanna be the annoying guy at the range with you asking questions and taking notes. Making that shot would be freaking awesome. I'd tell everyone I met.

People dont believe you, think youre full of crap, etc..... I dont tell people I dont know any of that stuff.
On that1st Montana trip one of the guys that went knows me well and he had told the other 2 guys that" if they heard me shoot they might as well come help get it out and it didnt matter how far it was." One of those guys told him "HMMMMFFFTT, Id like to see some of this long range shooting!" As it turned out he did hear me shoot, knew where I was, and was the only one to come help me. He was standing on top of the mountain where I shot and by that time I was all the way in the bottom in the trees with the deer quartering it up. I drug it down to the bottom in the snow. When he got to me he asked where I was and where the deer was and I told him.
LOL he never said a word but I made a believer out of him right then and before the trip was over he was trying to get me to take his rifle home with me and set it up. I told him it wouldnt do any good, HE had to be the one to do it, otherwise he wouldnt know how in the field.

I don't think I've taken a deer any further away than 225 yards, as I mainly hunt thick woods. But, that was with my daughter's 22/250.

It's zeroed dead on at 200 yards, fixed 6x scope with plex reticle. It was basically hold on heart and shoot. Dead deer, ran 40 yards, bullet in and out. 63 grain Sierra SMP.

I've killed a load of coyotes with it from point blank out to 400 plus yards and same setup.

I've made only 2 shots over 300 In my life on deer. One was with a .30-06 150 gr. Hornady handload. The other was a .308 with 150 gr. Hornady handload. I always set my scope 3" high at 100 yards. It helps on longer shots. Won't be very liw at 300 or a little farther.

Encore with a Bullberry 264 WM barrel, 120 gr TTSX at 3425 fps. Zeroed at 200, 13.7" low at 400. Opportunities for over 400 yd shot very limited now so out to 400 yds never hold above the top of back. In the late 90's I hunted a grew up field a lot that could stretch to 500 yds in one direction, killed one with a 300WM and 165 gr Barnes X at 468 yds. Back then I would step off yardage and put a flag on a tobacco stick every 25 yds past 300, man I must have had a lot more time and energy back then  !
