I've been following the weather patterns pretty close. For middle TN a cold front appears to be coming in Friday. .rain should be clearing by ?sat morning with highs in the upper 50,s and lows in the low 40's for the remainder of MZ weekend, Winds should be out of the North according to the models but everywhere I hunt they are swirling,

Should make for decent weather .

Sure wish some knucklehead hadn't run off BSK or we could get a proper opinion on this! :stir:

no one ran him off. he is a grown man who left on his own accord.

X2.....and I don't need a biologist to tell me what's gonna happen during a warm weather rut. 30yrs of experience tells me what I need to know.

Everyone is getting so torn up about these "warm" temperatures that are being forecast thinking it's going to ruin the rut. Yes, this week has been hot. If it were to stay like this it would put a serious damper on daytime movement, but it's not. After this front moves through the temperatures will be for the most part within 5 or 6 degrees of the seasonal average. It's not going to effect the chasing enough to worry about.

Good, maybe they'll all stay in and have some cheese with their whine.

Nothin better than a two buck limit AND a legion of statewide hunters going to the mall with their wives.

The most chasing by the biggest bucks has always been mid December around my place anyhow so warm weather in early November doesn't overly concern me. On the other hand, the forecast keeps showing a greater drop in temperature between Friday and Saturday as we get closer to the weekend. That has to help get them moving compared to the heat this week.

I have a difficult time believing a buck isn't going to bump doe beds and chase does in estrus because it's warm.

As I pointed out HUNT the AM hunts. HUNT the PM hunts while we have these warmer temps. Stay close to bedding areas, funnels and pinch points for maximum value.

If we still have these warmer temps and the deer are feeling the pressure of the hunters in the weeks to come..DON"T be afraid to do some mid day stalk hunting. Big bucks have hunters patterned on 6-10AM and 3-6PM hunting activity. A couple of my biggest bucks came from stalk hunting during the 11-2 period of the day right around 12:30 when all the hunters were away at lunch. If nothing else use the 11-2 period to stalk hunt to another stand location that might be better for a PM stand/wind location and make a all day hunt out of it. A little preplanning might go a long way in getting that big buck you have always dreamed of and never gotten.

NO, warm weather wont dampen the rut much, what it will do is dampen the daylight activity associated with it!

Exactly right. Don't get me wrong, I miss him posting here occasionally as well. With that said, he's not the only guy around who knows about Whitetails.

Exactly what is "a proper opinion" anyways??[/quote]
I thought that was a bit insulting myself but let it slide. A good number of us around here have 30+ years of experience behind us.

I saw bucks chasing does up on a military base in the Midwest a few years ago when the high temperatures were in the 70's.

Even if it's warm in the daytime it is still usually cool at night and in the early morning. So a lot of the activity can simply occur at night. But a cold front is getting ready to come through the area soon.

For the most part warmer weather will curtail most of the day time movement during the rut. Couple that with many of the bucks locking down on does in heat and the potential for movement lessens even more. But.... I have seen bucks chasing hard (and not just the young bucks that will start pestering does pre rut) when the weather was warm. Each buck is an individual and has his own characteristics. A buck peaked out on testosterone, especially at the onset of the rut and encountering the first hot doe, may be so fired up that he loses his "normal" inhibitions about daylight travel. I personally think that after he has mated for the first or even second time during the season that all out drive starts dwindling. He may still be involved in the rut but it may be more sporadic. Point is, you may not see as much daylight activity when the temperatures rise but the possibility is always there.

is this not the core reason we all look forward to the rut so much? Warm or cold, they get horny and smell the doe coming in, and they need some of that.

But hey it's going to be cool this weekend, so maybe the does will be out feeding around and get the bucks moving even more.

My buddy drove in from Memphis to Nashville today. Said he saw a ton of deer on the side of the rode. There are 6 deer between the Dickson exit 172 and the Bellevue exit 201 that were not there We'd . So I would say activity is picking up. 51 degrees in the AM with a high of 58. Not ideal but I'll take it.

This evening I saw tons of deer feeding in fields on the way to work. And it hadn't cooled off yet. This weekend looks pretty good...I'm working a lot this weekend but will sneak out once or twice to see what kind of deer are on their feet
