Heading out for my sons first squirrel hunt this morning. Little sucker has been up since 4:00 AM! Needless to say, he's excited!

This morning, I headed to a hickory ridge I know always holds squirrels and was there at sunrise. The ground was littered in hickory nuts and cuttings. The first squirrel popped out right at 6:45 and there was a flurry of activity for about an hour. I'd forgotten how hard it is to get a clean shot this early in the year. I did end up getting 2 shots and made them both count; although I hit one squirrel a little far back and ruined a little meat. The squirrels just disappeared at 7:45 and I headed back to the car an hour later. I've got the squirrels cleaned, some food in me, and about to stretch out on the couch.

Me and a buddy had a dandy morning for it to be so hot. He really did. He had his 10 before 8 am. I had 6 and 7:20 and only ended with 7. It was completely feast or famine on the side of the farm hunted. His side seemed to have all the hickory nuts.

Got in the woods before daylight knew they were cutting a couple hickory's hard, they started coming to the hickory tree and for about an hour it was non stop action. Had my limit by 7:45

I agree! But, he said he wanted to watch me clean it and is excited about eating it. He loves squirrel. He says " Mom is really missing out not eating squirrel." all the time.

If you're careful skinning it there's no reason you can't do both

Took the scatter gun out this morning. Shot #8 at 8:05. Should have easily had 10 but I missed 3 . Got in a hurry and took bad shots. The heat was making me delirious. Couldn't take the heat any longer so called it quits at 8:15.

I live in northern Arkansas. I was out Saturday checking my bear bait. Squirrels are in the hickory nuts!! I seen fresh cutting everywhere.

I'm sitting on the back patio, drinking coffee, and about to start work. My red oak tree is full of squirrels this morning. I have tomorrow morning free and may just have to hit the local WMA.

Fine morning to be in the woods ,temp in the 50's killed a KY limit saw several more.

No picture this morning because I was in a hurry to get to work but I did manage 7 more this morning. Was a beautiful morning to be in the woods. I had 5 before 7 a.m. so I was a little disappointed to not kill 10 but for some odd reason the activity where I was flipped a light switch around 7:50. I'll be back at it again over the long weekend.
