The late Mickey Pope caught this nice smallmouth? The bridge in the background should tip it off. This is one of about 30 we caught that early spring day.
Looks like the Caney upstream from Carthage, at the head of the island at the I-40 bridge. If it is, I've caught a bunch of little rainbows there, as well as a ton of small stripe and one smallie, although it was only about 6" long! :grin:
That is the bridge over the little stinking creek that runs into the Smith Fork about six miles above the Caney. It use to be an easy launching site for a 3/4-day float. From there to the Caney, we caught a ton of good smallmouth. That one is not at all unusual. I would guess that one at about 4-pounds.
