Anyone still shooting 12 gauge 3.5”

A pound or two may not seem like that much on paper, but it seems pretty dramatic in the field.

I bought a 301 20 gauge, a choke, a reflex sight, and a box of TSS a few years ago. I was going with the lightest option I could find. I put it on the scale, compared it to my 12 gauge 870 and decided to stick with old faithful. I sold it to a member here, but kinda wish I would've kept it. The biggest property I hunt is 420 acres so I'm not walking 10 miles a day carrying a gun. I get it though.

I can't imagine a 3.5'' outta a Topper! That could really be dangerous, like torn ligaments or broken collar bone. My turkey gun is a Topper but I shoot 2 3/4 - 1 1/4 copper plated 7.5. at 1220 fps.

My thoughts exactly. Makes me hurt to even think about it.

8 shells plus what's in the gun??? You are going to war with those timber chickens!

My 20 ga autoloader holds 5 rounds.
Never know when you're going to unload all 5 on a pair of coyotes.
And #9 TSS to the neck will kill a coyote at 40 yds.

Yes and h and r single shot 3 1/2 was a dream to carry but I swear if loosed teeth when you shot it. I mounted a 2x scope on it and it actually broke the glass inside the scope. Only gun I ever quit shooting because of recoil.

100% I will never forget when my buddy and I traded my 7.5 lb Winchester for his 20 ga Benelli after he tagged out.. I thought he had tossed me a twig! Sold that Winchester right after I got home and never looked back!

I get it. I wouldn't want to shoot one if I was a scrawny 150 lb. Man either.

Still work my old mossy oak treestand ulti mag into the rotation each year. I hunt 3in, as I have found they pattern better than the 3.5's out of my gun. Win 6's and Fed 7's are extremely deadly out to 40 steps. I might not be as cool as the tss fanboy f#gs, but I will always be more than efficient as long as I do my part. At 6.2lbs, I'm not to much of a p#ssy to still tote it either. Hell, several spots I hunt, I load with straight 7.5 "dove loads". Most all my setups are within 30 steps. If I get lined up on his neck, he is hard pressed to walk out of that pattern. Mines a 24in barrel, with the stock x full choke.

Me neither. Nor do I want to shoot one anymore at 6'1", 210lbs. Especially since a 20 gauge will kill them perfectly dead as far as I care to shoot. But some people need a little extra range, I suppose.

No turkey takes a tightly choked load of at least 1 1/8 oz of #7.5 inside of 35 yds and comes out alive. It don't take a cannon to kill one.
