I apologize I got called away in mid post. I was headed toward asking if anyone knows the best place to stay updated on west TN situation. TWRA doesn't post much maybe due to time of year. We are a couple of years in now. I hunt near the epicenter and deer health appears good but at the same time the reports I read sound like it is spreading even more.

I hunt right at the epicenter. We've had almost 20 deer tested in the last 2 yrs and all have been negative. I know of positives all around us so it's just a matter of time.

i did see a doe last year during the late August buck hunt that looked poor as a rake. I wanted to shoot her and get her checked but figured I'd get busted for shooting a doe in buck weekend even though my reasoning was for a good purpose not just to get a deer.

im sure we'll get positives soon.

I hunt in Fayette it the hot zone. Out of all the deer we have tested, 1 has come back positive. We have not seen it impact us as much as we expected.

Autocorrect and poor editing.
if you know west Tn you know what I meant
I don't know but autocorrect gets me a lot!! I need to travel around and explore west TN. I was there a lot with work but never got to look around much.
More on topic though I watch all the cwd threads. I'm afraid it will eventually spread eastward like the armadillo did.

Rossville is in the western edge of Fayette co CWD looks to have started just east of there near Ames Plantation....Moscow TN is just to the East and has. A lot of cases.

id bet someone imported farm raised deer with good genetics and turned them loose somewhere near there.

im afraid it'll be like covid. We might know what happened but can't or won't prove it...

I understood you. Cwd doesn't seem as bad as the hemorrhagic disease was. Herd in hardeman seems to be healthy. The open season limits seemed to suggest we needed to kill them all. That said- now I'm in East TN and hemorrhagic disease affected density big time. I can't find a deer.

I hunt Ames and was out there today looking around and talking to other hunters. It's difficult to say how hard the herd has been affected by CWD. The aerial survey they did showed 36 deer per square mile. That's a pretty decent herd. Ames is continually doing research on CWD including CWD sniffing dogs. An expert is coming to talk at our banquet this fall. They are talking about getting more than the glands out for testing this fall. I think they want the intestines now. That's gonna be fun. No one has noticed any big deer kill off or anything unusual with fawn recruitment. But we do know the herd is younger now. Older bucks are harder to come by. But, overall CWD isn't talked about as much as before. It's just one of those things we live with now.

There are plenty of deer in East TN. They're in pockets and some unhuntable areas but with work and effort they can be found. I've killed several in small huntable areas around my house in Roane County but now do most of my freezer filling in West Tn.

i don't agree with the TWRA kill em all approach in west TN. I could kill a lot more but now I kill enough does to fill my freezer for myself and my friends and mature bucks when possible.

Had a good 4.5 yo hanging around the farm last year for over a month. He looked healthy and was rutting and chasing does. Neighbor killed him around the end of December and was shocked when he came back positive for CWD. The public land I hunt seems to have a reduced deer densities or the increased pressure that is displacing the deer I'd normally see. I am still seeing big deer with the testing being the only nuisance of hunting in the heart of it.
