Man. While I don't like using decoys or the culture behind that hunting style, the gentleman asked a question in a hunting forum looking for options. Telling him to "learn to hunt" was s a bit out of line. If you don't have a response or have something to help him just leave it alone. Man this once was a community where we helped one another or at least gave comments that said the other side a different way
I agree 100%

Look I could be snarky as my disdain for decoys is extremely well known.

I'll choose to not be my normal self. I will however question trying to have a 4 year old kill a bird or heck even a 6 year old. Seems fishy, like dad wants a jump on the season so let's drag the new born out so I can hunt. We've seen it on here before.

Next, why is there this mentality that for kids to get into something these days it's got to be super duper easy? Most of us grew up earning things not having them gifted to us. Such a weird instant gratification culture now. I'm glad I was taught to hunt not kill. I'm also glad I learned range estimating tactics without a crutch.

As far as decoys, it's like kissing other dudes. Just don't start and don't cross that line or forever more you know what you'll be labeled 🤣🤣🤣
Dude you are a karen.

For all the decoy haters, which decoys do you hate the most because they are so effective that there is no challenge to the hunt? Just asking so I know to stay clear of them.
It's the ones you just place out and they call the turkeys for you, if the gobblers are hesitant to commit it will chase them down, bring them back and hold them while you shoot…
I think they are called "Hitman decoys" by Tom Foolery…

The most amazing part of this conversation (and it happens every time) is people bring up decoys, then anti decoy hunters comment on it, then the pro decoy take it personal and start name calling and making comments back to the other side doing the same thing they got upset about to start with :)

Fact 1 - hunting WITH decoys is % wise more successful then never using them
Fact 2 - Hunting WITH decoys generally speaking is a more lazy (for a lack of a better word, not calling PEOPLE lazy just the hunt style) then without
Fact 3 - Hunting WITH decoys covers up a lack of experience or overall woodsman ship in a lot of people (again not saying if you use them you are not a good hunter)

Those are all facts that cant really be debated. If you like or prefer those options then until its illegal have at it, BUT dont get mad or offended if some of those facts are brought up by folks that are against them.

There seems to be a pre-season turkey decoy conversation here every spring :)

Last year's discussions were actually a bit more enlightening to me.
For those wanting more perspective, here ya go . . . . . .

It's a time honored tradition here, and one of my favorite March rituals. There hasn't been a "reaping" thread yet, and no one has killed a bearded hen, but the decoy thread is a mainstay.

I really scratch my head at the accusations of "self righteous" "holier than thou" by guys who either like using decoys or say "if it's legal then do it". Then they proceed to hate someone for their opinion and explanation. Some who are against decoys have called names which is not helpful.
