Ever since my Dad died this year I've been thinking about all the things(junk) I've accumulated over the years. I told my middle son he'll probably get stuck with a lot of it lol . Hopefully it's a long time before that happens and I kill a ton more deer. Some mounts on the wall, some out in the garage😀 Things that mean a lot to us won't to other people when we're gone.

Your following comment could not be truer: "Things that mean a lot to us won't to other people when we're gone". I called a former coworker in Newport News that was an authority on the Norfolk & Western Railroad Agreement which I inherited for advice. I said Bill what are you doing. He said Carolyn and I are filling up a bunch of big Tupperware containers of stuff for the kids and putting them in the attic. I said, what for? For them to throw away when you die. It got really quiet. Bill said, hell you're right they won't want any of this stuff.

Usually they don't mean much to others I don't think. Have got 12 shoulder mounts of antelope, deer, elk & 17 European whitetail & mule deer mounts (plus one jackalope that I really cherish 🤠). I can look at them & relive the moments, after I'm gone it really doesn't matter what happens them.

Soddy Daisy, yes it's a real place
Lol I'm not that good of a hunter for my boys to worry about a bunch of mounts but I understand what you're saying. I've told the story of a Dr. that I was friends with that lived next to where I work. He traveled all over the world hunting and loved every minute of it. He had a HUGE place built on his house just for his "trophy room". I'd go over and just listen to him and look at all the pictures and MOUNTS EVERYWHERE. I'm talking elephant tusks, lions, tigers, bucks, hippo heads. The coolest we're the Polar Bear and wolves. Well when he died his POS kids left after the funeral and took every gun in the trophy room and I'm talking hundreds of thousands dollars easily. They left the mounts and next thing I know his wife died not long ago and they seriously just bulldozed this $800k house to the ground and it's just grass where this man built his "paradise" now. Makes me sick to my stomach to think none of them cared enough to be involved with his stories.

I suspect my man cave with all my mounts, along with my and my dads military memorabilia will all be burnt. Would rather that than tossed in a dump.

I've been thinking a lot about that lately. Unless my daughter marries a young man who likes to hunt, I'll be slowly giving away or selling a lot of stuff that means a lot to me. I'm not sure she'll be as sentimental about stuff like I am. Hopefully, she is.

At least that way, I'll have a small say in where it ends up. I doubt I'll ever do another shoulder mount again. It's easier to give away skulls or caps.

I'm gonna enjoy my antlers while I can. Hopefully that's gonna be a good long while. But, I've always joked that my mounts will end up at Cracker Barrel one day.

I have a couple of mounts that are special to me and I'll leave them to a family member or a friend...for the other mounts...shoulder and european...they can do whatever they choose...and until the Lord calls me home I will enjoy them.

Not mount related but after having to go through my MIL's stuff... and I do mean stuff... LOTS of STUFF I hope to have whittled down my stuff so my family isn't left scratching their heads about what to do and hurting my feelings.
She wasn't a hoarder but kept everything that was sentimental to her... for 78 years. I won't do that to my kids.

My wife will outlive me and she hunts too, she likes the wall art. Some of the mounts are hers and the kids. My oldest daughter at one point said she wanted certain mounts. I will leave it for them to decide amongst them.

I could die and leave nothing but a suit to bury me and a bank account. God isn't that impressed with my trophy wall. A spiritual legacy matters the most and that's something we can all afford. Even if our kids cherish our mounts, the next generation certainly won't. A hundred years from now, what really matters?

I've started giving away the guns I want some to have now . I'm to refrain from buying any more but .... a deal is a deal 😂 The mounts I could care less what they do...... in glory who would have a care ?? Think though my children would split them up that is the mounts but the Eruos no clue . I have a huge supply in my out buildings of those that's not deserved the honor to be in the house but to be honest I don't have the room ☺
