A-rig. Just bought my first one haven't tried it yet. Second is spinnerbait. Have many varieties, made hundreds of casts, and never had any luck.

Continue to be amazed with how the same lure will have no confidence from some, great confidence from others.
Am now more convinced than ever that what matters more is not the lure being used so much as it's about the time used, place used, and technique(s) used with whatever the lure.
We often hear about matching the lures to the conditions, but another thought is matching the time, place, and technique to the lure.
Make sure you get that hook count right depending on locale. GWs enjoy writin tickets for that up my way.

IDk, I've had lots of luck on a Squarebill up rivers.I'll 2nd that motion.

Yes they really are kinda more of a topwater. I like a slow steady retrieve where they are just under the surface but still leave a little ripple/wake.
#1 hands down is a jerkbait for me. They catch the crap out of fish just not with me throwing them. I have been on a few phenomenal jerk bait bites but my partners were catching them not me. My wife makes fun of me for having a jerkbait box because I will make three cast with it and put it down lol.
You guys that don't have confidence in a chatterbait need to reconsider. I used to be one of those guys until I made myself throw it all day once. Didn't get a whole lot of bites but when I did they were good ones. Been a believer every since and have caught a ton of good quality fish on them. One very important thing is having a quality chatterbait. If your throwing one that you have to work to get to chatter throw it away. I throw the jack hammers because they start chattering as soon as they hit the water. If it stops you better set the hook. Yes they are expensive but they work every time. This is a chatterbait fish my wife caught last week.
I also love a spinnerbait but the conditions have to be right. I fish them from 6" of water to 25' depending on the time of year but have one tied on year around.

Jerk baits.
Little george's are fish catching machines,lol.Fished with a buddy 4-5yrs ago trolling jigs for crappie and he was useing them.Caught alittle bit of everything that day,that was the first time i saw them ,never heard of them.

When they first came out I about three my arm out casting one. Never got the first hit. I figured Bill was catching fish on something else and rehooking them on the eel for show.I've caught fish on just about everything.. there's a time/place for each bait.. Except, a Dance's Eel. Crank baits, I've caught a few fish on them but I just hate using them for some reason.
I have now resolved myself to fishing a spinnerbait more this year. I read a quote by Mike Iconelli where growing up he would limit himself to one bait for months at a time until he mastered it. I fished with a spinnerbait in my pond behind the house for about 45 minutes last night and did not catch anything but I will keep trying.
There have been rumors seemingly forever of him and other TV fishing shows doing this.
i think this is sage wisdom. i was fishing the stones in murfreesboro last week with a buddy. i was throwing a crankbait and landed a decent smallmouth on the second cast. buddy was throwing a fluke and landed a monster smallie. within minutes he had caught two more dinks. he offered me one of his flukes and since it seemed to be working i took it. he caught 8 fish in an hour. i did not catch another fish once i made the switch. he tried and tried to show me how to work it. im sure with time and practice i can learn to work it properly. but thats what it takes with any lure...time and practice.
The key to a spinnerbait is two fold: 1. Working it through cover without snagging 2. Knowing the speed they want it at. Some days they want you to burn it, some days it's a slow roll. The more you throw the joker, the more you'll become in tune to that. In my experience, a bass will almost always bite a spinnerbait if you can get their preferred cadence right. Like any bait, so many factors though, temp, wind speed, temp, depth, blah blah blah. Sure are fun though.
Not a "bait" but anything in red. I can not catch fish on red anything. I know red is a great color for bass but I can't make it happen.
