Lures you have no confidence in?

Talking to my son this weekend and this came up.
Thought it would be an interesting topic.

I know spinnerbaits catch a crap ton of fish.
I have used them before but not very often.
I just simply have almost zero confidence when I am throwing them.

Second place is a jerkbait.
I know they catch fish and I have used them but for me they are just too much work for me. I'm lazy.


Anyone have a bait they just don't use?

I am a fly or live bait guy. I want it to be either really hard or really easy. Not a big fan of throwing lures in general.... although I guess the boxes of lures in my garage says otherwise.

If I do fish with a lure, it has to be a moving bait. I can't stand throwing something that you throw out and slowly wiggle back to the boat like a worm.

Hate typical spinner baits but love inline spinners. Never have liked top water lures.

I love wacky worms. But even if it isn't much weight, I need something besides the worm on the hook or I cannot cast it to save my life.

Teckel frog. Caught boat loads of fish in my lifetime on lots of different baits. Time was I'd say, I could catch fish on a safety pin and a Wrigley's wrapper. However, these things I just can't seem to land fish on. I've used a lot of frogs and know how to set the hook but, I have lost more good fish after the strike on these things than I can count. Finally trashed the 4 or 5 I had.

On the other end of that spectrum, a simple Strike King shallow running crank in a TN Shad pattern. Been days where I came home with a sore arm from those jokers. Simple but effective.

Personally, I almost have no interest in bass fishing any more unless it's top-water bass fishing.

Nearly all my bass fishing now is top-water, and you can catch them top-water year round, somewhere, and during times of many days even in the winter.

To me, there is nothing better than the explosive hit of a big bass on a big buzz bait.
But there are often times when they just won't hit much of anything.

Last year, one of the best bass fishing days of my life was had by both me and my son-in-law. He said it was the best fishing day of his life. We caught 100% of the fish on top-water, mostly on (Teckel-type) top-water frogs, but a few on big buzz baits.

Interestingly, my son-in-law HAD no confidence in top-water, and fished the first hour or so using an assortment of sub-surface lures, catching nothing. But after he "heard" and saw several 3 to 5-lb bass brought into the boat on top-water, that's "top-water" is about all he's talked about since.

In times way past, probably caught more bass on spinner baits than anything else, but used to catch bass on everything. It's just way more fun to see them hit top-water!

Less about confidence there for me and more about what a pain in the tail they are. Always catch fish on em but, it comes to "how bad does everything else I have to throw stink". I gotta be desperate.

Spinner baits and rattle traps. I would fish a wiggle wart or another crank bait over a rattle trap. I also have never caught a lot on a spinner bait.
