I see several cats during the course of a deer season but never shoot them. In the past I've shot a few with the intentions of mounting one but my shots with a deer rifle always blow them apart. After a couple of failed attempts at just glancing a shot off their spine or head so as not to tear them up too bad I gave up. I still think about it when I see an exceptionally large cat though. I've seen a couple of huge cats I could have taken during archery but then they aren't legal.

My dad shot one in the head with a .30-06 about 20 years ago, and a taxidermist was able to repair the damage and make a good mount out of it. I don't recall if the exit hole was the head or into the body.
