Has anyone had any luck growing a variety of sweet bell pepper? I have had luck in the past with green pepper but never with the red, yellow or orange bell peppers. Just wondering if maybe I'm doing something wrong?

a lot of varieties (even the ones listed as green bells) will turn red. it just takes about 90 days. i usually pick some through the summer off of each plant and leave the best ones to turn red. i grow big berthas and they do well. the problem with peppers as well as tomatoes is the 95-100 degree heat. i use shade row covers when it gets too hot and seems to help. in the fall is when they really put on.

if you want a jump start on peppers and if you have space in a basement or garage you can try to overwinter a couple of plants in pots and set them back out the following spring.
