A few years ago I built this shooting bench and in the last few days I got it set hopefully in its final resting place….on my hunting property. I've got it set on patio blocks above grade and the top is made of TREX, so the bench itself should outlast me. The best I can do is 94 yards, but at least it's private and always available. I've found that a patio umbrella standing against the table strategically makes a pretty nicely shaded shooting area. Always makes me happy to complete a project. Oh, the cinder block is there just because I like a footrest when shooting….

I'm looking at building one but never thought of the TREX.

The only thing about using TREX for any purpose is that if it's in the sun it will get extremely hot. I'm talking about too hot to lay your hand on for more than a few seconds. Once upon a time I was on a crew building boathouses and piers on the lake down here and the decking for the piers was TREX. No way to walk on it barefooted or to handle it during construction without gloves if it was in the sun for very long.

Could you cover it with outdoor carpet?
