New Missouri deer hunting record set last season, conservationists report

The new record surpassed the previous state record set in 2006.

Traveling out west to hunt the past two years during the rut, I've seen more dead deer on roads in MO than all the other states combined. That includes driving thru TN, KY, IL, MO, IA, NE & SD which are all good deer states. The further north in MO the more & bigger deer I saw. If I was planning a mid west hunting trip, I'd sure consider northern MO, across counter tags too!

Great area for sure. I hunted near Kirksville this past November, pretty country up that way and huge bucks!

I would guess the next couple years will have lower kills so skip 2 before I would go.

Absolutely. Deer in the KC region of MO are as big as anywhere on the planet and are not in short supply. An OTC tag gets you a legit chance at a real trophy, and there's plenty world class BBQ. They take their pigs pretty darn seriously up there. And their deer.

Memphis or Charleston SC maybe? ate like a king at Rodney Scotts place every time i went in. was vacationing at Savannah & drove up for lunch once, it's that good...

We had kin that lived in KC and I recall as a kid a family reunion where they brought in Arthur Bryant's "world famous" burnt ends. Texture of an old boot marinated in liquid smoke then smothered in crappy BBQ sauce. That was it…no more KC BBQ for me and since that time I've enjoyed waaaaaay better BBQ of all varieties. Just no point in eatin bad q.
