Thanks again!....appreciate the information!
I have a wood stove in my garage and all my ashes from there go to the beds the charred wood from my smoker and grill also.
Also add red worms! Just pick up some around the place and they will multiply pretty quick.

Decided to do raised vegetable garden beds. I had lumber left over from another project went and bought enough straight stock roof metal color to match our roof, shutters and doors. Going to build 3 8ftLx4ftWx24ftD raised beds. Any you guys do raised beds for vegetables?
Thanks for the info and picts. Hope to get mine built this week and ready to plant. Building 3 4x8x2 to start for this year.
Glad you settled on 2 foot depth; I thought 24 feet was a bit ambitious.

Popcorn--You use the black plastic sheeting on your strawberries?? I have always skipped that stuff but a buddy tells me thats what the pros use. Personally, I think it is just to maximize mechanical harvesting and to control water loss.

You have a favorite variety or three?

Some plants will root well past your garden bed/ground boundary. Can help to till the ground under the bed soil, or even add some conditioner to it.

Arkansas Beauty/ aka Tennessee Beauty is best all around as far as I'm concerned.
I just bed them in wheat straw every winter.

Just finished building this for one of the places I oversee out on lake Barkley.
Had a 12 inch lattice crown built for it but they don't like lattice so I just capped the wall. This has a stainless wire mesh barrier in the ground around it to keep out rodents and the snakes that eat them. It's scary how fast dollar's evaporate when building with western cedar and landscape retaining blocks.
Had to create a level spot for it.
