Quad rail for AR

I like the Troy Battle rail or Samson rail. They are smaller diameter and lighter than a standard picatinny quad rail, and the only picatinny section is the top. You can buy picatinny inserts that you can position where you want to so its more to your liking.

The troy trx comes with sections that can be bolted on in a configuration of your liking. The longer one that's included has a qd attachment for a sling mount.
I like the troy too.

The hand guard you describe with the only fixed rail on top is known as the "Brazilian." I prefer that kind as well.

You don't need 45 things hanging off of your gun.
