Red head lamp and small, cree bright flashlight in my hand or pocket. My philosophy is - I'd rather get to my spot quickly and quietly than not use a light because I might spook a deer while making enough noise to wake the dead while I wander through the woods in the dark. A light helps me move more stealthily and quickly to my spot.

I have tried to scare deer off with a white light usually to no avail.. Deer don't see green or red light but we see green better. Use green.

I use a red light. Deer do not see red. I use "cat eyes" to mark my trail, which turn red when using a red light. I kept looking at 2 red "cat eyes" that should not have been on the trail in that spot. It was actually off the trail at a dog leg in the trail. I put all my " cat eyes" low to the ground. I use a double set at sharp corners. This was a double set but spaced apart. Not the way I place mine. I kept looking at them, then "they" stood up and walked off. It was a deer 😆 🤣 😂
