Another vote for the 7x57. You can do so much more with bullet selection in the .284 diameters.

As stated previously. I'd get something your .270 does not do well. Go bigger or smaller. .243 or 6mm for varmint/deer gun or some suggested Lever 45/70. That's on my list. As you can see everyone likes different things. Exercise you're right to own as many as you can...

If you don't dislike the 270 for some reason, the above post makes the most sense. Really you're not gonna be able to tell much difference if the deer is shot with anything inbetween a 243 and 30-06,now if you go to a 300 mag or 7mm mag you might have a few more DRT,is that the goal? If you get a compact, light, fast shooting lever gun for woods hunting or something like that you've actually bought something different from what you have now.

I agree 100%. I built a 7x57 off a mauser 98 action a few years ago. Shillen barrel, Boyds prairie hunter stock, timney deluxe trigger. it is a dream to shoot! love the mausers.

The Ruger #1 in that round would be amazing! I have a Ruger #1 chambered in 6.5x55 sweed and 22Hornet (rechambered to 22K Hornet). Love the Ruger 1's

I have 270, 7mm rem mag, 30-06, and 300 mag....all have their places...killed the most deer around here with my 270use my 300 for bear and hog...honestly you can't go wrong with anything for deer...your optics however are what makes the rifle...atleast that's how I feel

REMINGTON MODEL 7 7MM-08 WITH A LEPOLD VAR-X 3 1.75X6 SCOPE IS MY FAVORITE. MY NEXT I WOULD GO WITH 6.5X55 OR 257 ROBERTS

Likely a .308 is the best all around caliber available. I carry a 7 mag majority of the time but love my .308's

Buy a hunting pistol. I got a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in 44 mag, and it is fun to carry.

Or get a rifled slug gun to use in shotgun-only areas.

Or a good bow/crossbow.

Or a lighter caliber for predator hunting, like the 22-250.

Or a heavier caliber for a hunt out west.

I will never just go buy another deer rifle.
