I recently had a very unpleasant conversation with a local coon hunter and need a verification. This guy has permission to coon hunt on a 50 acre tract about 1 mile from my property. I own 176 acres in Williamson Co. He stopped by and asked if he could go on my property to retrieve his dogs. I told him we don't allow any other than family on our land and to please keep his dogs off my property. He kept on and I finally relented if he would come and let me know when he needed access and I would go with him to find his dogs.

That wasn't good enough and he started yelling about how his dogs can't read and he was allowed to go anywhere to find his dogs. At that point I told him to move on and keep himself and his dogs off my land.

What is the law about retrieving dogs? Doesn't a leash law apply? I have to keep my dogs inside a fence are coon hunters exempt from this law?

Thanks

He has to have your permission to come on your land to retrieve his dogs. There is no "retrieval law" for private lands.
Your local wildlife officer or the SD can cite and prosecute.
