Here's the link to the event. Registration is due by March 15. I'm at present in the process of fixing me up a dedicated "chunk gun". Have an unused Douglas .45, 66 twist, 15/16", 44" long barrel attached to an old Hopkins and Allen under hammer action. I'm sending in my fees today. Last year was my first time there and as a spectator...This year I plan on shootin!

Gotta watch "Sergeant York" again before I go. :super:

Any other of you hillbillies going to shoot?

Are there only flintlock's at this event? I'd like to attend just as a spectator, and yes, watching Sgt York would definitely set the mood!

No, a friend shooting a mule ear will be there.

Flintlocks will definitely be present. I believe a flintlock rifle won last year. Pretty much any traditional ignition is allowed which includes regular hammer, side hammer(mule ear), and under hammer percussion. Non adjustable open iron sights are the rule although sight shaders can be used. A typical rifle will have a 44" to 54" heavy barrel and weigh up to 30 lbs (mine will be a tad on the light side). Below is a link to an article will describes chunk gun shooting a little better than I can.

Yep, you're right about a flint shooter winning last year and what's funny is it was the guy who wrote the article you linked to. His brother Joel finished 3rd, he was also shooting a flintlock rifle.
