Shell misfired

Set up on some birds hammering on the limb, quite possibly the most gobbling I've ever heard, at one point there was continuous gobbles for a minute straight, this happened several times. Anyways, they were roosted with several hens and they flew down and went the opposite way, which was expected.

They pretty much shut up after they hit the ground except for a gobble every now and then. I made a big circle to try and cut them off and I didn't get in from of them but I got even with them on the side of the hill, they were straight out the hillside from me a couple hundred yards. I ended up calling a bird out of the flock and he came in gobbling his head off, instead of coming out the hillside straight to me he went above me and walked right past me at 30 yards but it was too thick to shoot.

I let him walk past me far enough where I could spin around the tree without getting seen and try to call him back, I spun around and called him back to me to about 25 yards but when he stopped I couldn't see his head, he stayed in a 5 yard circle gobbling, spitting and drumming for 10 mins, I was a nervous wreck lol. He finally steps out where I had a clear shot, I squeezed the trigger and CLICK! He didn't like that and started fast walking away and putting, I got another shell in and ended up missing him, I blew half the woods down when I shot because it was so thick.

I thought I forgot to load my gun, nope, Winchester XR long beard 3.5" didn't fire. The primer was dented but it didn't go off. That's the 2nd shell out of this box that has done that, the first one did it when when I patterned my gun. Needless to say I'm done with that box.

Very exciting hunt just frustrating about the shot, but that means he's still out there to chase again, sorry for the long read!

Dang. That sounds like a very exciting hunt. Sorry that misfire caused you to loose the bird.

Dang man, that sucks big time. Sounds like a super exciting hunt, but a super frustrating way to end it. I don't blame you, I would be done with box, report the lot number to Winchester, and ask for a refund or a replacement box.

That sucks but sounds like an exciting hunt. I'd definitely be letting Winchester know and switching to a different lot of shells.

The indention it that shell doesn't look near deep enough. I would be getting my gun cleaned and then check out how deep the firing pin hits.

Agree on that too, the indention leaves a lot to be desired.

What kind of gun?

This is why I laugh at people who say it's pointless to load your own, especially when they say you don't need anything but them good ole longbeards! I hate they cost you a bird but things like this are why I got away from all factory ammo several years ago. Last year my hate for factory ammo was solidified when I had a tom at 35 yards and had a mag full of 20 ga. Hevi shot bloopers shoot into the dirt about 10 yards in front of the barrel while he stood there looking stupid. Never again will i attempt anything larger than a rabbit with production crap

X2. Had this happen to a friend a few years ago. Cost him two birds. Turned out to be a weak hammer spring. Replaced the spring and has never had another problem.
