There are barely any food plots anywhere, our fisheries are being destroyed every single day year round and state wide. You can call, take pictures and videos, report violations, etc. and every single day fish laws are being broken, mainly people keeping every single fish they catch.

This duck hunting proposal is just plain stupid.

I think politicians are horrible, but maybe it is time things are changed in the state of Tennessee. I think we are the only state in the country, there may be one or two others, that the conservation laws are setup how they are.

Keep in mind that the TWRA is a law enforcement branch. They do not make the rules. This duck blind debacle, gross mismanagement of turkeys, and other rule and policy mistakes belong to the Fish and Wildlife Commission.

Only because the wma system is such a trainwreck as is. Driving down lease costs would make it easier for people to afford to hunt private land and our government seems to be too incompetent to manage publicly owned lands.

Even without twra or usfw subsidizing you can find affordable duck leases today.

I'm just sick of my license fees going to fund my favorite kind of hunting and I see nothing out of it because I don't want to take my kid to a wma and expose them to boat ramp drama. Because of that I make sacrifices and lease private land even though I'm not wealthy. Id even wager I probably spend less on duck hunting than the average wma guy with the new prodrive and 8 dozen avianx and yet my license fees go to pay for them to have a spot to hunt. If twra can't "fix" wmas to the point everyone can enjoy them they need to close them.

So how does one get on commission? Is it appointed?

All Commissioners are appointed. Most are appointed by the Governor. A few are appointed by the TN Speaker of the House and Speaker of the Senate.

No I am not. Actually, remember the Cumberland Springs WMA? I personally knew the owner and who allowed the TWRA to use the land for that WMA. Know why that WMA was ended. Because the TWRA did nothing, all the TWRA did was say here the WMA is, go hunt. No work on the land, nothing, actually upset the landowner because they didn't patrol it. The landowner personally told me that.

The local officers that I talk to are great. They do all they can and I know they are overworked, but to say it is absolutely untrue is wrong.

The TWRA leases land to farmers on occasion, they barely do that, but how many food plots, crops, control burns, basically wildlife conservation is performed by the TWRA? They may do something, but it is next to nothing. I know they say are underfunded, understaffed, etc. but there is very little done for deer and ducks when it comes to land management for the benefit of the animals and the hunters. VERY LITTLE!

And go watch below and dam in our state, go to the lakes and watch what is being done to the fish populations every SINGLE day. I understand and agree there is no way to catch every poacher, but the scale the fisheries are being destroyed is crazy. People even use cast nets to catch game fish and keep all they can get.

I see your point, but they will for sure get nothing from other than what is required to be legal. I have lifetime license, so I supported in that way, but if something is being promoted by the TWRA, and it depends on the situation, I will most likely avoid it.

And I am against the government control of wildlife, seasons, game laws, etc. but (maybe someone can educate me) Tennessee is one of the only, if not the only state, that TWRA is set up the way it it. It may be time to get hunters and fishermen together and see if that can be changed.

That has always been the "benefit" of TWRA.
I am convinced that the politicians that would be involved are not any worse than what we have now.
I have seen it several times over the years where a single commissioner had laws changed for their own benefit or the benefit of someone in their family.

If you hunt deer and turkeys in TN but you think TWRA has done nothing for conservation, there's not much helping you. And think there shouldn't be seasons.

But they've done more for conservation than you know.
