Why Trout?

Instead of stocking trout every year, why not crappie or catfish? Is it because trout are easier to raise to stocking sizes, or because TWRA gets money for tout stamps?

Catfish and crappie both naturally reproduce in TN waters, and there is no need for stocking to have fishable populations.

There is very little natural reproduction of trout in most of our trout waters, so they have to be stocked to have fishable populations.

The trout license covers some of the cost for trout stocking.
