Who all keeps a fishing pole in the vehicle with them? I do a fair amount of traveling, and get the opportunity to bank fish at different locations around middle TN. Any recommendations for a good case? I've being poking around online and see the padded and hard cases. I've broke my fair share of rod tips and eyes already. I'm tired of doing that.

What type vehicle? I wrap a towel around a clothes bar and hang it in the back of our SUV and thread them in over the top and the headliner holds them in place and completely out of the way.

A piece of PVC pipe with caps on each end may be the cheapest and strongest option. You'd have to take the reel off, but that's not a big deal. It won't be the prettiest option, but it'll certainly work. I'd get a rod sock to stick on it before putting it in the pipe so it doesn't rattle around as much.

This is what I do. I also keep a small tackle bag stashed in the truck as well.

I always keep an Orvis travel case with a 5-weight, 8-weight, several fly boxes and enough stuff to keep it fun. My job takes me all around the area and some of the properties I'm at even have ponds or creek access, so I like to be prepared. Funny thing is, I take all this out when I'm actually headed fishing. Remote parking lots tend to be prime areas for vehicle break-ins.

I like this idea. Cheap and good protection from other stuff getting piled in.

You know it's ironic you mention the break-ins at remote parking lots. I actually upped the auto insurance, as I fish and hunt at several public/wma locations. That's always been one of my concerns.

I went and found the plumbers on a job we were working on. This is what we come up with. The pipe is 3" dwv, so there's plenty of room for most any rod I'd want to bring.
