I've lost almost everything I planted. My bales are staying so wet everything is rotting. I do have a great stand of mushrooms.

Just started mine this week.
I would think you would want to plant sweet taters in a bed. I remember that my dad used to plant them in a bed of old rotted sawdust and we always had a good crop.

No , I tried it and it did not work. You can however use the straw -No dig method. Dig a rectangle shaped trench 1 foot deep. Plant your potatos in the bottom of the trench then fill the hole with straw. I have not done this but this is the way it was described to me
