play the wind and move slower than the deer and look at every thing in the woods you just may see a bedded deer. Had a friend kill a great 12 pt this way saw him on the bed and the deer never knew he was there. Good luck

I did figure out my stands are in the wrong place too.
Very promising spots for when I move a couple stands in march

That made it worthwhile, especially if it scores you a buck next season. Pre and post season scouting only tells you so much. Learning what the deer are doing right now and where can only be known by going to look.

I used to still hunt quite a bit when I was younger. Now my back hurts if I stand too long so I can't really do it effectively. But the keys are : go slow and observe everything around you carefully, make sure you stalk into the wind, keep close to some kind of cover when you stand still - at minimum stand right next to a tree, if you see a deer then drop onto a knee if possible.
