I hunted with a stainless laminated M77 in .338 win mag for 15 years and killed a bunch of deer with it. Loved that gun when I was younger, kicked like a mule but I was tougher then lol.
I had one for years that I used cambered in 300 win mag, it had the Skelton style stock. I currently use one in 7mm rem mag but it has the "regular" black stock.
Mine isn't stainless either. It is a 270. It's my main rifle. Use it for deer, antelope, and elk. Sighted it again yesterday getting ready for gun season.
Just an FYI...if you have a skeleton stock and it starts getting light colored splotches on it, That mil spec CLP does a great job of reconditioning those stocks.
Pop's has a M77 (blued) in .30-06 and it's a tac driver. Popped a late season Doe last year with it. I can't wait till I'm able to find / purchase another in .308
