Back in Oklahoma hunting a couple of ranches the next 5 days. Obviously, I got spoiled last year and killed my biggest buck to date 7 minutes into legal shooting light on day 1. It was a 12 point that rough scored 156". (See profile pic).

It's beautiful country and the rut is definitely on. Yesterday, we saw 12 deer just glassing from camp. There are some trail cam pics of some monsters in the area. One of them would likely push 180".

There's so much land out here, it feels like the possibilities are endless. Unfortunately it's very windy this morning and sightings have been very low. But the weather is going to improve over the next few days.

Ive moved into a wheat field this morning that's just off of a thicket. The farthest trees straight out in front are 787 yards, but I don't imagine I'd take a shot like that. I'll post updates as they happen.

Well, it was a bust this morning. 20 mph gusts and warm weather incoming. We're going to change up tactics and hunt some ponds.

There's also a bunch of hogs out here.

About 3 miles up the road, a 9 point that will probably hit 145 went down this morning. But everyone reported slow movement.

It was 70 degrees yesterday. Saw about 10 deer total but nothing even approaching being a mature buck. Oklahoma DNR says they saw signs of an early rut this year, so we may be dealing with the tail end of lockdown.

The 170+ inch deer I was hoping to see was shot this morning on another ranch, but he has not been found unfortunately.

Cold front on the way today and tomorrow. Supposed to be low 30s tomorrow morning.

Things are looking up.

Can't beat the sunset though!

The buck that "everyone was hunting" was shot yesterday. Unfortunately it hasn't been found yet.

(First pic below).

Brother scored yesterday on a deer that is probably 5.5 the pics don't do it justice but this was a 240+ lb buck.

It's a cold, crisp morning and I'm back in the stand that delivered that 12 point last year. It's a beautiful sunrise so far.

Got back home last night around 8PM. Long day!

Saw a LOT of deer, including one buck I probably wouldn't have passed in TN, but nothing that was big enough to make you not worry about "what other deer are out here".

Case in point: After my brother tagged that buck above, he decided to doe hunt the last 2 days.

10 minutes before daylight Monday night, he had to watch the biggest buck of his life walk through the edge of a wheat field at 200 yards.

He said that there were too many points to count at the distance, but it was 12+ with a noticeable drop tine on one side. I asked him if it was bigger than the deer I killed last year and he said "it wasn't even close".

Ooof.

We had a few more people at camp this year, and it ended up being a great trip. I still have 1 buck tag left, and the season runs for 2 more weeks.

Can't say I'm not tempted.

Sounds like you had a good hunt and a fun trip.... congrats to your brother on a nice buck....and just to see a once in a lifetime buck is an experience in itself... awesome memories.
