Wind came up yesterday, so I went to the bottom of the hollow (Decatur County). This guy came along about 4:00 PM. I thought I went over his back at 65 yards with open sights. Quick shot in heavy woods where you have to trust your muscle memory and sight picture. I always have to remember to aim low when the bullet is at the top of its trajectory like that. After pulling the trigger I didn't see him lying there or hear him running. I started questioning my sight picture and if I adjusted enough. Couldn't wait long as it would be pitch dark in a little more than an hour. Waited 15 minutes and went to where he was and looked for signs of a hit. Found nothing. Started a little back and forth across the trail I thought he exited in case I got the position wrong. After 10 yards and no blood, looked up and saw him lying there 20 yards away. Heart Shot. I shouldn't doubt my open sight muzzleloader or muscle memory with lots of practice.
