Feed call?

I was told by some veteran hunters(born in 1890's) that the feed call or chattering seemed to help calm down the working mallards.

Only time that I seem to hear the ducks chattering is before shooting time

Heard ducks make chatter on the water and that rapid fire feed only when flying. Feed calling is just noise to keep ducks engaged. It's really not necessary but I think it's good to have the ducks hearing something at all times to the water.

I think of feed calling as a space filler. Have not used one in over 30 years of guiding...I was so excited as a kid when I learned how to control my tongue and feed call...LOL
