Sprayed a few plots to kill the summer weed growth yesterday. I noticed an 18 - 20" Chestnut tree naturally growing from a chestnut from last fall. I guess the squirrels and deer missed this one ;o)

After several years of growing chestnut trees, I've stopped working so hard to spread these trees throughout our farm. I simply pick up a bag full of nuts each fall, place them in the fridge crisper for a few months, and then plant in late February. I place a tree tube around them or the squirrels seem to dig them up within a few days. We have over 75% success with this method. No pots, potting soil, watering, replanting, etc.

Hopefully this helps someone wanting to introduce chestnut trees on their land.

I've planted 3 of them, about 5 ft saplings. The deer keep nearly every leaf nibbled off, I'm not sure they'll make it with all the browsing.
