Both. Crimson is an annual. Red clover is a weak perennial/strong biennial clover. All the purple clover heads in hay fields are red clover. Are you planting annual or perennial plots?I prefer not to mix annuals with perennials, except for a little bit of wheat in my perennial plots the first year to act as a cover crop.

I've read several articles that recommend crimson clover in the south and red clover in the north. Which one do you think would be a better choice for central Tennessee?

Crimson clover will come on stronger for fall planting for hunting in same year in my opinion. Red clover will last into the summer and compete against grasses better.
