Blind draw system: Computer vs In-person

They tried last year to kind of bring this back to a degree with the in person announcement for who drew what blind, but in my opinion, it failed miserably. Less than 25% of the turnout for that than what it was when they did an actual in person draw.
So, in your opinion, if they went back to in-person drawings would the crowds come back or would it be "less than 25%" because parties are listed on the application?

Yes, crowds would go back to normal levels. Can't win if you ain't in. Don't see how they can enforce entries with party prelisted on entry, would take too long to verify that you were only in one party before you could drop your entry in the box.

Seems like since the computer draws started the West Tn wmas draw numbers have went up about 50%.

They have, and then when someone from the other end of the state draws one, they might hunt it a time or two, if they even build and brush the blind. They've bought into the myth of limits every day and the large number of birds. Then they see the reality of trying to hunt the WMAs here, and probably some local jerk gives them a few ears full, or worse, they have an altercation at the ramp, or some meth head cuts their converter off the first time they try to hunt the blind.

I would like to see in person draws with 4-8 person tickets in the barrel. I would also like to see the ticket pulled on a screen. Seems like the same folks got called up pretty often

The best thing the computer draw did (well, one of the subsequent iterations) was limit application group size to 8. Nobody else but those 8 get a blind card to kick hoppers out.

This addressed the principal flaw of the old, in-person system: because you as an individual would draw a pick, you would proceed to have the rest of your group "sign-on."
This incentivized guys bringing their 5th cousin thrice-removed and wheeling great-gramma out for blind draw day. So someone would have an effective application group size of 30+ in some extreme cases.
You could have done the same thing.....But you are over 5 hrs away from any W TN draw, well used to be lol. Now the drive if drawn hasnt changed. Is what it is and im all for opportunity and you got yours when TWRA took the very best blinds and made them what they are.

It's not, but TWRA officers never managed to catch anyone exchanging the cash to make a case. And I imagine that most wanting to buy/sell, made a phone call after the draw to whoever the local kingpin/broker was(and it was well known who they were), and he would facilitate it.
They never tried to catch anyone……………which makes the whole reasoning for switching to computer even more rediculous

I don't know if you would see the same numbers in person. You would be drawing for 60 day blinds only and those are fewer then in the past. Also most of the top blinds are 3 day blinds now. TWRA is not going to put them back to 60 day draw blinds after they have spent $40,000+ to put a blind in that location.

Take example Tigrett WMA they took the top blinds and made them 3 days blinds. So if they had a in person draw you would only be drawing for 6 decent blinds and a couple other that would never get hunted.

So they tried to catch people? Sounds like you dont have a clue if you think they did.
I was part of multiple law enforcement meetings where potential enforcement scenarios were discussed for many hours. There were annual meetings with the District Attorney Generals over those counties discussing what type of evidence they would require to prosecute the cases. It always came back to not being able to get the evidence the DA required to go to court.

If you are there and see the blatant holding up of dollars, etc, it seems really simple to just document that and go to court. Unfortunately, more is required to successfully prosecute the case. "Knowing" something is going on doesn't mean that you can convict the person in court. If the DA isn't going to go forward with the case, there isn't any need to write the ticket.

Bottom line is it was a "feel good" regulation that was passed by the Commission even after they were told up front that it was going to be unenforceable. You would have to be a real idiot to do something that led to your conviction. Most of the folks buying the blinds were a little smarter than that. A couple weren't, and cases were made a couple of times on that regulation.

So to say TWRA didn't try to deal with it is complete bullshyt.

We tried. There was actually a couple of cases made. Unfortunately, none from where the major problems were taking place.
When the TWRA guy at Camden on the mic watches the whole thing go down. Then makes the joke "I didn't even get a tip on that one" on the mic over the speakers doesnt exactly inspire confidence that they give a single yugo about it lol.
