I traded for a 460 with the 8 3/8 barrel, recoil is no worse that a stout 44 mag. I shoot the Hornady 200 grain FTX ammo. I have shot the same gun in 500 with Steinel and Underwood 350 grain ammo, it is a literal bruiser, it bruised the "web" part of my hand between the thumb and index finger! If you get the 500 I recommend a pair of Mechanix Impact gloves be your next purchase..

I like single action revolvers so I've got a Magnum Research BFR in 460. I love mine. As said above, recoil with the 200 gr ftx is not that bad. When you move up to the heavy Buffalo Bore or Underwood hard cast loads, that's when you will notice the recoil. It's also a blast to hunt with. Killed several deer with mine.

I've shot the 500, never shot the 460. I braced myself and got ready for the big recoil of the 500. Wasn't what I was expecting, I didn't think it was too bad.

Revolvers are my favorite guns and I'm just pretty well set on the guns I want. But never owned an X-frame. I don't become too attached to most guns, so I also thought the 460 would be an easier sell once I got tired of it. ;)

I've never owned a big powerful revolver. But, handloaded and shot lots of .357 Magnum over the years. I started to buy a Blackhawk .45 Colt one time. With handloads it's in another category.

I own a .44 blackhawk Hunter and with heavy reloads it'll let you know you just pulled the trigger. I've shot and reloaded 500 S&W extensively 8 3/8bbl. It's not bad at all, as a matter of fact I shoot the 500 better than my .44 BHH. The ports make all the difference with the 500 it pushes back, not up too much. Now before I sound like I'm trying to be tough, my buddy has a 480 blackhawk that I don't ever want to shoot again. It's hell on my wrists, I've never shot a handgun that was more uncomfortable than that one. If I were to buy another big pistol the 460 makes the most sense by far for me.

I have two .44 Magnums and it's all a man wants in terms of recoil.
shot TC Contenders in .44, recoil wasn't bad to me. but, i carry a ten gauge turkey hunting and enjoyed shooting handloads in a 45-70 carbine. so, there might be something wrong with me...:)

Are those yours or some rando internet pic you found ?
These are mine, I call it a trifecta. I also have a 7&12 inch Ruger 357 Maximum and a H&R rifle Topper in 357 Maximum from the factory. I will someday find a 10&1/2 Ruger Maximum and maybe a Contender Maximum barrel.

I've got the DW 357 max but that's it. But I'm a HUGE DW collector so that's why I ask when I saw that pic. Missed a 445 not too long ago. I'm also on the hunt for a Savage 24 in 357 as well as 357 max

Thanks for the eye candy (pics) :)

They are all fun. Just no need to reload them to their full potential. A hard cast 400-500 grain slug traveling at 1,000 feet a second will usually penetrate at least 3 feet inside a big critter. A person doesn't need anymore than that. Recoil at these speeds is just a big push.
Currently own BFR's in 500 JRH, 475 Linebaugh, and 45-70. As well as. Desert Eagle in 50 AE.
