Yup, this kid has whacked 0 birds.
So far.
Been about 50/50 on using decoys.
I'm a junkie, weening my self off them slowly.
Been playing cat and mouse with the same gobbler for two weeks.
I've belly crawled, ran the 200 yard sprint, and have the bug bites and bruises to prove it.
Went out this morning for a quickie til 9:00, one Jake came within 20 yards, didn't see big Tommy.
Buddy texts me at 10:30 and says he's out in the field gobblin his head off.
I got text messages that will make you chuckle.
Afternoons seem more active.
Had a Jake Wednesday that got within 5 yards and Big Tommy got within 50 with a herd of deer 20 yards behind him. Didn't shoot. I ain't pissin my buddy off and loosing my spot.
Back at it tomorrow afternoon.
I'll say it's been a blast. I've learned a lot so far and huntin Tennessee is 10x more fun than flat land Illinois.
Did I mention I've never killed a Turkey.
I did call one in for my son when he was 14 and have the beard hanging up.

Not with a herd of deer right behind.
My buddy who owns the land wouldn't appreciate it.
If it would hit the deer then totally understand…if near them, they won't have a clue what happened. It's important to pattern your gun and setup before season so that you know your range. My 20 ga is deadly for 50 and in. Keep at it. Learn to hunt em without decoys and you will become a better overall woodsman

Not gonna turn this into a decoy debate.
My license, my choice.

Am gonna recheck today.

Wasn't turning into a decoy debate just if he's been educated with one then don't use one. Fair enough brotha was just trying to help, whether you kill one or not doesn't affect me

Sorry dude.
I missed him last night at 65 yards.
Lost patience.
A little sore.
The decoys are probably getting put away.
More of a hinderance than a benefit lately.

I sure hope he's still around for you sir. Most patterns at 65 yards are approaching barndoor-sized. A stray pellet or 2 in the wrong place and that bird is coyote food.
