I just traded for one this week, but I've not shot it or even found any ammo for it yet. I was wondering if any of you are using them for deer and how you like it? Any cons other than ammo price/availabilty?

I shoot a Ruger No.1 in 25-06, same loads as B&C. Never had one move out of its tracks with farthest shot at 110 yards. The 25-06 is one heck of a deer cartridge.

Federal Premium 100 grain Ballistic Tips have worked for me. Only 2 does but both were DRT. Handloads work great too.

Welcome to the TNDEER site . I have a 25/06 built on a NIKO Golden Eagle 7000 action that my son will get to use as I am putting my old Redfield 3X9 wildfield scope on it for him to use , I sold my Remington 7400 automatic rifle to my nephew who was useing it . The brothers son wanted a new Nikon scope .

I have hunted with one for about a year. shot yote drop in tracks. Shot 190 pound deer at 40 yards with 117 grain hornady's and bad shot placement almost cost me not to find it. I hit it dead in shoulder bone no exit... just hair at site of shot. 40 yards as he went under fence found one drop of blood and did so every 10 -30 yards till I found deer about 150 yards from shot. So my bet is good shot placement no worries. poor shot placement you better be ready to crawl on hands and knees. even though mine didnt travel far it was far enough, had I not found those hairs I may have not searched hard enough to recover that deer.

My 1st deer rifle was a 25-06 and I still hunt with it the majority of the time today. Have killed 6 this year with it. Shot a doe at 195 yards Sunday afternoon and she dropped in her tracks. Great gun! I think you will like it.

I built a 25-06 for yote calling. Built it on a 98 mauser with a douglas xx barrel. Shoots great. Killed a buck and a handful of predators with it. Found out it was too much round and too much gun for preds and too heavy to tote around deer hunting. 25-06 is a great deer round, just wish it was in a lighter package.

Yes Sir, I have a Ruger 25-06. I took the first deer, a doe with it last fall. She went maybe 10 yards and dropped. I use the Remington Core-loked ammo you can find at Wal-Mart.

I built a 25-06 for Deer hunting and yote calling hunting . I built it on a model 98 mauser action with a douglas xx barrel. I like the 30/06 family of cartridges. The 25/06 , 270 Winchester , 30/06 , 35/06 0r 35 Whelen are all good cartridges for our American hunting.
