I have another name that oak question. This tree is on the edge of one of my food plots and I have never noticed it dropping in the past but like most everything this year it is loaded.

I will admit that I never took the time to learn how to ID oak's. But I have decided that I am going to attempt to better educate myself going forward. I couldn't find a lot of caps so the ones in the picture I pulled off the tree. So I couldn't tell if the deer are feeding on them or not.

That is a northern red oak. One of my professors in forestry school said to remember it by the "ski slope" looking streaks in the bark. Said there were no ski slopes in the south. 😁
