5.56/.223 for deer opinion

Everyone says "the bigger... the better", I've heard of more lost animals with 7 mags and 300 mags. No matter what you shoot, you still have to aim, hold it and you better have the bullet that does it's job correctly. Too thick of a jacket, might as well shoot a FMJ.

I have used 55gr hollow point varmint bullets and 62gr psp intended for medium sized thin skinned game such as antelope and deer. Both have their use and place. My next try will be an all copper bullet. I'm sure it will do what they are supposed to do as well. No deer I have shot has went past 60 yards and 3 of 6 were drt. The lighter bullets placed into the heart/lungs will create a slushie of the organs. Ribs were not a problem but I would stay off the shoulder with the .223. I know headshots are effective and with the lighter bullet I do not desire to try them. Very little if any meat is wasted when using the .223.
