20 gauge will more than do the job if you can do your part. That is why most folks prefer the 12 gauge....more shot.

i've been shooting a 12 forever but have been wanting a good lite weight 20 semi auto,i shoot my turkey choke in my mossburg 500 for doves & you can reach out there,20ga should do pretty good when you figure out its limit, takes me about a box before i start hitting them regular :) mike243

I like my 12 as the best all round gun. But the 20ga is my favorite. IMO there is nothing better than a sweet shooting 20ga. The best and smoothest gun I have ever shot, that shouldered the easiest and overall best feeling gun ever, and thats including rifles also, was a Browning Gold in 20ga. Only shot about 3 boxes of shells thru it, friend let me shoot it one day, but man, that thing was smooth. If you can hit'em with a 12, then a 20 should be no problem.

Now thats got to be Fun.

id have to have a lot of preloads for that mzl & a bucket of soapy water to clean it in & a bird dog to find the birds if i hit 1 cause i couldnt see where if fell for the smoke :D first mzl deer i ever shot took what seemed like forever to clear before i could see if i hit the deer  .dad has a 20ga ithica killed many a rabbit with it'mike243

I now use a 20 ga for doves and love it. I always used a 12 before, but as I get older I find the 20 more fun to shoot. A 20 with an IC coke will kill doves further out than a lot of folks realize.
