First off thanks string music for sending me the call.
I got permission to hunt 23 acres of the most grown up land I've ever seen (rabbit country). The neighbor had been trespassing and I could tell just from aerials. Owner lives out of state. I told the owner I'd post it and run anyone I saw off. I knew there were tons of birds in the area. I went and scouted weekend before juvi, and posted the property. Found a tripod stand but just took it down and hopefully he'll figure out the jig is up and come get it. I Heard 2-3 gobbling on the scouting trip. I got there Saturday and got lost going in and boogered it right off the bat. Tons of gobbling though. Played with them all morning but they wouldn't come off the neighbors property. I decided to try it again this morning. I got in and birds were gobbling in every direction. I made my way back to were the trespasser had made. Food plot, and made trails. I could see 4 in a big oak on the neighbors. There was one gobbling by himself towards the back. I went back and there is an area were three trails meet creating an opening. I'm getting ready to set up and I look Over and I see him on the limb about 75-80 yards away. I headed down one trail and found the only tree they could possibly support my weight and set up against it. I then noticed a hen about 30-40 yards away from him in a tree that I could see just barely. Birds were flying down in the distance so I just went ahead and did a couple of soft yelps on my pot call and he gobbled. I kept watching the hen hoping she didn't fly down because I knew if she did it was over, unless she came to me. While I was watching her I heard something fly down and realized it had been him and I heard the bird actually hit the ground around the corner of one of the trails out in front of me. He gobbled and Before I knew it he was Stutting into the opening. At that point I think he realized something was wrong and wrenched his neck up looking for the he. and I shot him at about 30 yards. I think I was done within six or seven minutes from sitting down. He wasn't a very big bird. He had 8 inch beard with some rot and 3/4 inch spurs. Did the best I could with the self photography.
